The Bible describes God as being infinite, meaning that He has no limitations or restrictions on any aspect of His being. Let’s talk about how that applies to His knowledge.
The Bible teaches that God knows everything. About what? Everything. The technical term for this is omniscience, which you might be tempted to pronounce omni-science the first time you read it, and actually makes sense since omni means “all” or “whole” and science means “knowledge”.
What this means is that God is the One who “has perfect knowledge” (Job 37:16), and this knowledge extends to all things past, present, and future, including the future decisions of His free creatures. God’s knowledge is complete, and because He exists outside of time, He has known from all eternity whatever will come to pass:
- It means God knows the secrets you’ve never told anyone
- He knows where pi ends
- He even knows where you left your keys
God’s omniscience, His all-knowingness, really should only create one response in us: humility. While we might be very intelligent, even the most knowledgeable of us have to admit that our knowledge has limits. But because God is not limited the way that we are, we can trust His decisions as wise and good.
