Jesus, the Word of God, came to bring salvation.
Scripture: John 1:1-18
Central Truth:
Only the sinless Creator could save sinful creations. Jesus, the sinless Creator, became a human to pay a price humanity could not pay and give a peace with God humanity could not earn. All who believe in Jesus, the Son of God, are given the right to become children of God.
Key Question:
Can anyone be a good enough person to get to God? Why or why not?
Keep in Mind:
We have some real challenges to face. We long for the love and eternal life only available in God, and yet we are sinners separated from God. Furthermore, there’s nothing we can do to make ourselves as good as God—nothing we can do to earn His love or eternal life. In other words, we have problems we can’t fix.
It’s this bad news that makes way for the good news. Jesus became a human to live the life we all fail to live. Jesus revealed a heavenly Father who loves us and wants to save us and spend eternity with us. As the Son of God, Jesus has the authority and power to forgive sinners and give them new birth as eternal sons and daughters of God. Eternal life with God is a free gift for anyone who believes in Jesus Christ.
APPLICATION:
What did Jesus reveal about God the Father that people may not have known before?
THE WIN
FOR THE STUDENT: There are basically two ways to reject Jesus: continuing to live in sin or trying to earn our way into God’s forever family through our own good works. Receiving Jesus means believing you need Him and that serving Him as Lord is the best possible thing you can do.
FOR THE LEADER: When we need something desperately but can’t earn it, we must receive it as a gift. God’s grace is a gift given, not earned. We need His grace for new birth. We need His grace to live for Him. We need His grace in every single thing we do, including leading students to follow Jesus.
