The Bible is not about us—but we often read it as if it were. We turn to it looking for guidance, for stories to encourage us, and heroes to elevate as examples. We want to be brave like David, who slew the giant with a stone. We want to be as faithful as Abraham, who did not hold back his only son. We want to be righteous like Noah, as wise as Solomon, and unwavering like Paul.
But what if in doing so, we miss the greater story God has been telling from the beginning? The story that doesn’t tell us to be like these heroes of the faith, but of our need for the Hero all the Bible’s heroes point to?
Through every passage of Scripture, through every story and parable and prophecy, God is telling one story: God’s plan to rescue His people from sin through the life, death, and resurrection of His Son, Jesus Christ.
This is the story that The Gospel Project shares with preschoolers, kids, students and adults every week as they see how God’s gospel project unfolds—the one that began “in the beginning” and continues today in the hearts and lives of His people.
The story that is better than any that begins with us.
The gospel. The story that changes everything.
