This week’s training notes:
This week, your group will be studying Unit 4, Session 2, God Shows His Power, which focuses on God’s faithfulness and power in keeping His covenants and promises by delivering His people but also by enforcing judgement where needed.
So for this week, here are your three things to know, watch, and do as you prepare for this week’s session:
Something to know
Many of us may know a few things about the Passover but it would be beneficial to dig deeper into the idea of sacrifice as it is a foreshadowing of Christ’s ultimate sacrifice. Spend additional time exploring the details of “sacrifices” by reading all the commentary for point 2 on page 25, as well as the extra commentary and illustrations on page 30-31 of your leader guide. It will give you a deeper appreciation for the Passover celebration and its connection to Jesus, the Messiah. It will also help you understand how sacrifices throughout the Bible reveal God’s justice and mercy in light of His holiness.
Something to watch
For something to watch (or listen to), we’ve included a link to a sermon by Juan Sanchez in the Additional Resources called Trusting God in the Dark Times of Life (and Ministry). (From the link, click on ‘Watch on Youtube’ above the play button for the video.) This sermon will inspire you with the lesson to “remember God’s covenant faithfulness. And on the basis of God’s covenant faithfulness, you can look to the future and trust Him for His future faithfulness.”
Something to do
Feel free to view this video with your group about Christ as Propitiation, one of the 99 Essential Doctrines. The video answers, “How Was God’s Anger at Sin Satisfied?” It’s only a minute and 52 seconds so would be easy to view during your group time. Help your group understand that we are forgiven, not because God turns a blind eye to our sin, but because Jesus took the penalty upon Himself.
